This year I started my birthday celebrations a few days early with breakfast at Duck & Waffle.
Located at the top of the Heron Tower in Bishopsgate (a few minutes walk from Liverpool Street Station), Duck & Waffle is a cocktail bar and restaurant, serving food and drinks 24 hours a day every day.
It is famous for the stunning views of London and, of course, for its signature dish: fried duck egg and leg, served on warm waffles with spiced maple syrup.
Part of the experience of visiting Duck & Waffle is taking the lift that from the street takes you straight to the 40th floor in just a few seconds. Avoid if you are afraid of heights!
When the day arrived, we dragged ourselves out of the house on one of the coldest day of the year to get there for our 7:45 reservation, but delays on the Northern line meant that we arrived 30 minutes late. Nobody answered the restaurant phone, so we weren’t able to inform them of our delay. Whilst our table reservation had been cancelled, we didn’t have to wait at all and were accompanied to a table immediately.
We were sat right by The Gherkin and, despite the cloudy day, we loved the view!
We ordered Waffles with Nutella and Bananas and Scrambled Eggs on toast, with two cappuccinos.
The service was very quick, so half an hour later we were fed and ready to leave to go to work.
The food was good and – despite the location – still affordable. We spent £23 for two dishes and two cappuccinos, in a beautiful restaurant with great service and unbeatable views. We both enjoyed it and are definitely going to be back.

It looks amazing! I want to go there now :-)
